  1. This is one of my favorites ( hey,but I have so many!!!) it is an acanthus. I love the very large, very decorative leaves and the spikes that grow up looking innocent but then have those thorns hidden beneath their petals… The leaves have been used as a motif in architecture, (see a Corynthian capital ) and in the Arts and Crafts movement. I think the flower are magnificent. They can grow to five or six feet tall.
